Customer Reviews
Let me start off by saying that this is a good 3" tape dispenser for the money if you use it periodically. It's cheap, heavy and it does its job for the most part, which is to dispense 3" rolls of tape. However, I use this thing 50-100 times a day and I get frustrated 50-100 times (must be a sign of getting old). I package small items and use polyester tape to seal the items and after I tear off the tape, the tape on the roll does not stay on the serrated blade but instead it falls down. When time is not on your side and you need both of your hands, it gets frustrating after the 50th time. Just take my word for it :)
I did a little modifying to the blade by bending it and now it works as it should. I wish I would done this from the start to save myself all the grief.
Mine arrived with gravel in the box. I immediately saw where it was coming from. The bottom of the dispenser was almost fully separated from the shell, and the gravel was pieces of the weighting material inside the tape dispenser. The dispenser is given weight by filling the shell with a concrete aggregate. In my case, the concrete mix was crumbly and porous- like it had not been properly mixed before pouring into the shell. For $8 it wasn't worth sending the dispenser back, and the loose ballast made it sound like gravel inside.
So I fully removed the bottom, easily tapped out the crumbly concrete pieces, then refilled it with a smooth mix of cement leveling compound to give it the weight. Once the cement cured, the bottom was glued back onto the shell. After rebuilding the defective product, I now have a good tape dispenser.
If it weren't for the lack of quality control in manufacturing, the dispenser is a good unit. Maybe I just happened to get the one being made during shift change.
